Elk Outfitters – Which to Choose…

Choosing Elk Outfitters can be a difficult job. They are each created different, which can make it hard to compare. Each Outfitter will have their own services included with a hunt or camp – these need to be carefully considered. Too many hunters look at the Elk Outfitters fees – but do not compare them well. An Outfitter may be less expensive – but you need to consider what services are included or what you might have to add -  that will increase your fee.

If it is in your budget, go on a full service guided hunt. That is the best – I might love to Elk Hunt – but I love to come back to my camp with dinner ready. The hunting day is long – I really like someone else taking care of the details.

Many Elk Outfitters will also include horses and mules or pack horses and pack your game to your vehicle. That alone is a lot of work – I like someone else helping me with that task. Field dressing an Elk is very time consuming.

When looking at Elk Outfitters – look at references. Good Elk Outfitters will easily provide you with references of hunters they have taken on hunts. Do make sure that they are licensed – it does happen.

If you do not want to go fully guided – Elk Outfitters are great for hiring a drop camp. They will pack you in and out of the camp. You are responsible for everything else.  There are also several Elk Outfitters that offer “in between” packages. You can get a drop camp with food, a cook, horses and mules. It will be self guided. You can basically get a full hunt without the guide – and save money. Again, each Elk Outfitter will offer differentr services – you need to real all the details to be sure.
